From Mangroves to Manhattan: An Evening Among Friends

Bay Area | 1 Oct. 2026

What a special evening it was in Saratoga on October 1! Friends, well-wishers and community leaders from across the Bay Area came together to celebrate iMerit’s remarkable success and the journey that began with Anudip in the Sundarbans. From the mangroves of Bengal to Manhattan in NYC, it is a story close to our hearts, of young people whose talents were nurtured, whose lives were transformed, and who went on to build careers in the global technology industry. More than anything, the evening reminded us of the friendships and generosity that have made this journey possible, and the wonderful community of support growing around Anudip in the Bay Area.

Houston: A community taking shape

26 Sept. 2026

Anudip brought together friends, supporters and community leaders in Houston recently, as part of its growing engagement in the United States.

Kousik Kundu, a leading enterprise and growth executive, along with his team, is helping bring together local supporters through community engagement. “Houston has an extraordinary spirit of entrepreneurship, generosity and community,” said Kundu. “We’re bringing that energy together around Anudip and building a community of supporters who can make a meaningful difference.”

The gathering was made possible through the generosity of Asoke Deysarkar and Ruma Acharya, who gave sage guidance to the group and made the Tagore Cultural Center available for the evening.

Monisha Banerjee, Anudip CEO, shared Anudip’s growth plans and opportunities to participate through Giving Circles that will offer smaller groups of supporters an opportunity to come together around shared interests while directly supporting Anudip’s programs and impact.

“Whether through year-end giving or introducing our work to friends and colleagues, every connection helps us reach more young people,” said Banerjee. “We would love for Houston’s community to make this journey their own.”

Reflections on Anudip and iMerit

by Jessica Subramanian | 9 Oct. 2026

16 years ago, I left my job on Wall Street to work in India for an organization founded by two Bay Area tech entrepreneurs who, like me, were eager to contribute their skills back to India.

Dipak Basu tells the origin story best. When he went into rural India and asked people what they needed, they said 1) jobs, 2) jobs, and 3) jobs. It’s still the clearest market research I’ve ever seen.

From there came Anudip Foundation and then iMerit. I helped build Anudip’s entrepreneurship program in India and led business development in the US, shaping the business model and partnerships. For several years, I contributed to their mission of bringing tech-enabled jobs to rural India.

I remember working in Radha Basu and Dipak Basu‘s kitchen…

The ceremony was attended by prominent community leaders and partners, including Sheriff Marlin Gusman and Charu Adesnik, Deputy Director of the Cisco Foundation.
